SportsLab’s football fans predict five home wins, two draws and three away wins for this weekend’s compliment of Premier League games. Arsenal are the side most favoured to win: 94% of all the football fans who responded expect them to build on their triumph over Chelsea last weekend with victory at home over West Brom. The Baggies disappointed their fans last time around with a 2-0 reverse at home to Liverpool. This week, the Reds host Swansea in a game that 85% of those asked think Liverpool will win. More than nine out of ten predict Manchester United will beat Sunderland at Old Trafford, while nearly nine out of ten expect an away win when Queens Park Rangers host league leaders Manchester City. Over two-thirds expect in-form Newcastle to beat Everton at St James’ Park, and eight out of ten of our respondents predict Chelsea will bounce back from their recent poor form with an away win over struggling Blackburn.

Our participants are less united over Wigan’s game at Wolves and Bolton’s match against Stoke – in both cases, around six out of ten expect a draw. Finally, Aston Villa’s game with promotion high-flyers Norwich has fans divided. Only 6% expect a Norwich win. However, 47% predict a Villa win and 47% reckon the result will be a draw.

How accurate are Sportslabs fans’ predictions? Can they put established pundits to shame? Check back next week to see which games ended as expected and which sprung surprise results.

Labs Method statement

YouGovLabs research is anecdotal, with polls being open to all panellists who wish to take part. In contrast to YouGov’s Public Opinion polling, YouGovLabs seeks to understand the attitudes of specific subsets of people: sports fans tell us how they feel about sports and music fans tell us how they feel about music, for example. YouGovLabs results are unweighted, and figures reported do not reflect the attitudes of the population as a whole.
