Benedict Cumberbatch, star of the BBC's Sherlock, announced today that they would be making a fourth season of the hit BBC show. The third season is set to start filming soon.
This means that there are currently three ongoing Sherlock Holmes franchise: The BBC's version, American network CBS's Elementary (which currently airs on Sky Living) and Warner Bros' film series. Each offers a different take on the classic character.
The BBC's version--which stars Benedict Cumberbatch as the detective and Martin Freeman as Watson--updates the series to modern London.
Elementary with Jonny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu, places the series in New York City and changes Watson into a woman.
The film series, which features Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law, keeps the characters in the Victorian era but adds a distinctly action movie flair to the stories.
