Cameron out ahead

With a consistently high level of support across the population, and in particular among females, David Cameron has emerged as the population’s favourite politician of 2010 in the YouGov awards, beating London Mayor Boris Johnson into second place and consigning Gordon Brown and former MP Anne Widdecombe to joint third.


  • 24% of the population chose Cameron as their favourite politician
  • Boris Johnson garnered 20% of the vote
  • Former PM Gordon Brown saw 10% of the vote along with Ann Widdecombe, more recently known for her dancing exploits on BBC One show Strictly Come Dancing, making them joint third
  • Labour leader Ed Miliband scored 9%, putting him in fourth place
  • While recently beleaguered Lib Dem and Business Secretary Vince Cable came fifth with 8%

  • David Cameron had a particularly strong showing among females with 28% saying he was their favourite, by far the most popular of the list.
