One in three Britons have a negative view of both Victoria and Brooklyn Beckham

  • David Beckham is more popular than unpopular among public
  • More dislike than like each of Victoria, Brooklyn and Nicola Peltz – although most common view is neutral in all cases
  • Older Britons more likely to be negative towards all four
  • Women more likely to be favourable view to Victoria than men; to be neutral towards Brooklyn; and more likely to be neutral or negative towards Nicola

An Instagram post by Brooklyn Beckham this week thrust the ongoing feud between himself and wife Nicola Peltz against his parents David and Victoria on to front pages across the country.

A YouGov survey earlier this week found that the story had certainly cut through with the public, with the results suggesting at least two thirds (67%) were aware of the family dispute.

Few actively take a side in the split, however, with 6% on Team Brooklyn-Nicola and 7% on Team David-Victoria.

However, the various participants in the feud garner very different levels of public affection.

David Beckham is the only one of the four we asked about to be seen more positively (37%) than negatively (21%) by the public – a further 36% take a neutral view of the former football star.

By contrast, Victoria Beckham is notably less popular. One in three Britons (33%) have a negative view of Posh Spice, compared to 18% with a positive view. Four in ten (41%) have neither a favourable or unfavourable opinion of the former singer turned fashion mogul.

Son Brooklyn Beckham is almost as unpopular, however – 31% say they don’t like him, compared to just 6% who do. Again, around four in ten (38%) say they hold a neutral view, while 25% answer either that they “don’t know” or haven’t heard of him (compared to only 7-8 saying the same of his parents).

Brooklyn’s wife Nicola Peltz also comes off more negatively (22%) than positively (4%) in the public’s eyes. A further 33% have a neutral view of the American actress, with 39% giving unsure or unaware answers.

Older Britons are notably more likely to have a negative view of all members of the family, even when you account for the fact that they are more likely to be aware of and hold an opinion on each than their younger peers.

When it comes to men and women, the main difference is that women are much more likely to have an opinion than men. In terms of how actual views differ, the most noticeable are that women are more likely to have a favourable view of Victoria than men; are more likely to have a neutral view of Brooklyn; and more likely to be neutral or negative towards Nicola.
