One in four Brits say that Sean Connery is still the best actor to play Bond, compared to one in five for Daniel Craig
This week Daniel Craig confirmed he has signed up to star as James Bond in two more films, including the 25th installment of the franchise which is set for release in 2019.
Prior to the announcement that Craig would continue as 007, YouGov discovered that Brits believe that Sean Connery is still the best Bond, with 27% of stating that he is their favourite actor in the role. Daniel Craig remains in second place (on 18%), a position he has held since YouGov first asked in 2012.
The late Roger Moore is in third place on 13%, while Pierce Brosnan takes fourth on 7%. Timothy Dalton, who played James Bond twice in the late ‘80s, was the favourite 007of a just 2% of the population, while George Lazenby - whose single outing as Bond in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service was seen as a disappointing follow-up to Connery’s films - is the favourite of a statistical 0% of Britons.
The debate over who makes the best Bond is a generational one: the younger a Briton is the more likely they are to say Daniel Craig is their favourite (25% of 18-24 year olds compared to 12% of 65+ year olds), while conversely the older someone is the more likely they are to say that Sean Connery is their favourite Bond (39% of 65+ year olds vs 6% of 18-24 year olds).
