Who will be best in show?

Of more than 25,000 dogs to compete this year, only one will go home Best In Show.

Crufts, Britain’s annual canine extravaganza includes more than just a competition, however. The Birmingham-based event, which lasts four days, also features a large trade show and a number of activities for dogs and their owners.

Traditionally reserved for purebreds, this year’s competition will feature mongrels and crossbreeds for the first time.

Neil Parish MP, chairman of animal welfare group the Dogs Trust, welcomed the change. He told the Times that “as a farmer by trade, I’m a great believer in keeping the gene pool as wide as possible.” Mr. Parish said he hoped to see, “more cross breeds, and more checking on characteristics that make sure that they are healthy dogs rather than dogs with the characteristics that make for a pedigree(...)"
