Switchers are most likely to have left Tesco, and most like to have gone to Aldi
In late September Aldi announced that they had seen an influx of new customers, with rival Lidl also reporting growing footfall as the cost of living crisis continues to bite.
Data from a YouGov RealTime poll conducted in early September reveals that one in six Britons (16%) said they had changed their main supermarket specifically because of the rising cost of living.
Aldi is by far the biggest recipient of these switchers, with 41% saying the have made the discount retailer their new main supermarket. Lidl comes a distant second on 24%, and ASDA third, taking 10% of switchers.
However, this still represents a net loss for ASDA, whom 16% of switchers have abandoned as their main grocery shop. An identical number of supermarket switchers left from Sainsburys, but the leakiest store is Tesco, from whom 28% of switchers have moved.
