How many people intend to abstain from alcohol in January 2026?

Every January, many people attempt to go without drinking alcohol as a personal challenge to start the year.

Now a new YouGov survey finds that 10% of Britons intend to go teetotal for the first month of 2026.

A further 57% say they don’t intend to take part, while 30% say they don’t drink alcohol in the first place.

Intended participation is largely even across social groups.
