Arsenal (UK), SSC Napoli (Italy) and Olympique Marseille (France) stand out as the big winners in October’s edition of the biggest Buzz movers. Football’s biggest Buzz movers is a monthly editorial feature by YouGov Sport, which highlights the clubs with the biggest improvement in Buzz scores in the United Kingdom, Spain, Italy, Germany, and France.
A club’s net score of the responses to two questions: “Over the past two weeks, which of the following teams have you heard something positive about?” and “Which of the following teams have you heard something negative about?”
In the UK, Arsenal (+8.9) returns the biggest month-on-month improvement in its Buzz scores, possibly as a result of victories against Tottenham and Aston Villa since late September. Liverpool (+3), which is second in the Premier League points table, is second in the Buzz movers list too. Sheffield United (+1.2), AFC Bournemouth (+0.8) and Southampton (+0.8) round off the top five in the UK.
In Spain, it is German club Bayern Munich (+4.8) with the highest uptick in Buzz scores. Bayern Munich, which topped the list in the German market in last month’s report, has been in red hot form and is placed atop the Bundesliga table and its Champions League group table. The other clubs in the list are Real Sociedad (+3.2), Real Betis Balompie (+2.6), CA Osasuna (+2.5) and Juventus (+2.1).
Liverpool (+2.4) and FC Schalke 04 (+2.4) have both registered similar upticks in Germany this month. Eintracht Frankfurt (+2.2), Hamburger SV (+1.9) and Borussia Dortmund (1.6) also made improvements.
Olympique Marseille has registered a staggering +10.3-point rise in its Buzz score in France. Notably, the club held star-studded PSG to a 0-0 draw in their Ligue 1 match recently. AS Monaco (+4.7), OGC Nice (+3.9), Olympique Lyon (+3.4) and Liverpool (+3.0) also feature in the top five Buzz movers in France.
SSC Napoli, which has won four of its last five Serie A matches and is perched at the top of the points table, is also the biggest Buzz mover in Italy. Juventus FC (+8.3), AC Milan (+5.1), Torino FC (+3.0) and Ajax (+2.3) also make it to the top five.
Methodology: YouGov FootballIndex collects data on every major club. Buzz score is based on the questions: “Over the past two weeks, which of the following teams have you heard something positive about?” and “Now which of the following teams have you heard something negative about?” and delivered as a net score between –100 and +100. Scores reported represent the chance between the 30-day daily average between August 17 – September 16, 202 and September 17 – October 16, 2021. Scores are based on an average daily sample size 826 in Italy, 2,110 – 2,160 in the UK, 570 in Spain, 535 in France, and 1,371 in Germany. Daily figures are based on a four-week moving average.
