After years of pressure on the royal family over revelations about Andrew’s private life, Buckingham Palace last night announced that he would be stripped of all royal titles, including ‘prince’, and leave his Windsor mansion. He will now be known as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor.
The public overwhelmingly back the King’s decision to strip Andrew of his prince title, with 79% of Britons saying it was the right call.
But while they feel the King has made the right decision in the end, 58% of Britons feel the royal family have moved too slowly in dealing with the controversy.
This is relative to 21% who believe they’ve moved at about the right speed in dealing with the issues around Andrew.
Nonetheless, most of the public (53%) now feel the King has realistically done all he can to separate the royal family from Andrew, though 28% do believe that the King could do more to distance the Crown from the controversial former prince.
Conservative voters are the most likely to believe the King has done enough to draw a line between the royal family and Andrew, with 76% doing so, compared to 62% of Lib Dems, 58% of Reform UK voters and 53% of Labour voters.
