Latest YouGov Westminster voting intention figures

The latest YouGov/Times voting intention survey sees 41% of Britons backing the Conservative (unchanged from last week's survey) while 30% say they would vote Labour (down from 33%). The 11-point Tory lead is the largest this Parliament, and the first time the Conservatives have led Labour by double digits since before the 2017 general election.

Elsewhere, the Liberal Democrats are on 10% (unchanged) and votes for other parties stand at 19% (up from 17%).

When it comes to who would make the best Prime Minister, this week's poll shows 39% of people prefer Theresa May while 16% favour Jeremy Corbyn. This is the Labour leader's lowest level of support since the 2017 general election. A further 42% answered "not sure".

In an additional hypothetical voting intention question we asked that included The Independent Group as if it were an official party, we find the Conservatives on 36% (down two points on the last time we asked this hypothetical), Labour on 23% (-3), the Liberal Democrats on 6% (-1) and TIG on 18% (+4).

The Independent Group's increase comes almost exclusively from Remain voters. While last week 12% of Remain voters and 7% of Leave voters said they would back the new group if it stood candidates, this figure has since risen to 20% among Remain voters, but is still 7% among Leavers.

As we have said previously, it's still far too early to predict the fortunes of The Independent Group should they choose to contest a general election. Their success or failure would depend not only on the public support they could garner, but also their relationship with the existing Liberal Democrats: would they end up merging, coming to an agreement or competing against each other?

Likewise, much also rests on how their support is distributed around the UK and how this relates to the unforgiving nature of first past the post. All these initial polls can give us is a baseline of support for The Independent Group.

Since the last poll YouGov has updated the list of 'other' parties we prompt for, removing the BNP and adding the Brexit Party
