The recently elected Prime Minister David Cameron seems to be enjoying a honeymoon period of public approval on the TellYouGov leaderboard, judging from the increasing volume of positive comments or ‘tygs’.

The topic ‘David Cameron’ currently scores +192, representing a recent increase of 90 in the past few days. The volume of tygs has also swelled 233 points to a total of 636, placing David Cameron at the top of the TellYouGov leaderboard.

There has been an increase in positive sentiment towards the Prime Minister with many tyggers commenting on his handling of the Saville inquiry into Bloody Sunday, with tyggers making comments such as ‘the Bloody Sunday apology was quick and to the point’ and ‘dignified over Saville report’. Tyggers have also praised the way the PM dealt with the Cumbria Shootings and, on a different point, commended David Cameron for ‘attempting to stick up for BP’.

However, with the emergency budget due to be announced next Tuesday (22nd June), tyggers remain most divided over the Prime Minister’s approach to the budget deficit. Some tyggers clearly approve of the government’s plans to cut spending, with one commenting ‘he has done his best to put everyone on notice’ about impending cuts, another saying they ‘agree with his financial plans’ and one tygger remarking that they have ‘big hopes for a better economy with him as PM’.
However, praise is by no means unanimous with one writing that he has ‘nothing in common with the people’ another claiming he is ‘Thatcher in trousers’ and one disgruntled tygger saying that ‘He’s clearly enjoying making cuts, but where is the vision for rebuilding the UK economy?’.

Whether David Cameron will continue to receive such praise on the TellYouGov leaderboard in the coming months with the inevitably difficult decisions ahead, or whether his current tygger boost is just a bout of winner’s luck, remains to be seen.
