YouTube to delete a creator’s account if it does not drive enough ad revenue

The new terms of service will be applicable from 10 December 2019.

As per changes in YouTube’s “Account Suspension & Termination” section, the company may terminate a user’s access, or their Google account’s access to all or parts of the Service if it believes that a channel is no longer “commercially viable.”

YouTube has been notifying users of the changes to terms via email. YouTube will now have the power to delete a creator’s account if they upload or livestream a video that doesn’t bring in enough ad revenue.

An implication is that YouTubers could lose their Gmail, Documents, Google Photos as per the viability argument. Last year, YouTube had revamped its monetisation policy wherein smaller channels eligible for monetisation had to abide by “increasingly higher standards” than “bigger” channels when they would’ve started out.
