Labour Leaves Ed Behind

Public think Labour twice as likely as the Conservatives to be in government after the next general election – but a majority think Ed will never be Prime Minister

New YouGov research today reveals that regardless of the public preference more expect a Labour government than a Tory one in the 2015 general election.

When asked who they’d most like to see in government in 2015, 45% say Labour or a Labour-Lib Dem coalition; 10% more than who prefer the Conservatives or a Conservative-Lib Dem coalition (35%).

However setting preference aside, when asked who they expect to be in government in 2015 the gap between Labour and the Tories more than doubles: 49% expect a Labour or Labour-Lib Dem coalition compared to just 23% who predict a Conservative or Conservative-Lib Dem partnership.

But the Labour many predict to win is not lead by Ed Miliband; a majority (54%) say its “very” or “fairly” unlikely that he’ll ever be Prime Minister, and 51% say he “would not be up to the job”.
