As David Beckham begins training at Tottenham Hotspur today, many fans across the country will be disappointed that his stay looks as if it will be brief and without Premier League action, as support is still strong among Brits for the former England captain.

  • 61% think David Beckham’s return to an English club will be a good thing for the Premier League
  • Just 9% believe it will be a bad thing
  • 57% of fans of a Premier League team would want Beckham to be join their club on loan
  • 36% would be opposed to Beckham joining their team

Furthermore, when we spoke with over 50 Tottenham fans, the vast majority were in favour of the move and could be deflated at the news that Beckham will only be training, and not playing, with the North London outfit.

Whilst some critics claim that, at 35, Beckham is too old to make an impact in the Premier League, half of the football fans we polled believe that the move will be beneficial to both Beckham and the Club he has signed for, with 27% thinking Beckham benefits the most, compared to 19% who fell that the club will mainly benefit.

Perhaps Beckham harbours hopes that a brief cameo in English football might convince England manager Fabio Capello to include him in future squads: most British football fans (53%) believe the footballer should play for England again.
