‘Avatar’: out of this world

December 31, 2010, 11:00 PM GMT+0

Titanic director James Cameron’s sci-fi epic Avatar has topped a poll of the best films of 2010, closely followed by Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1 and Toy Story 3.

  • Of the 2,039 asked, 27% voted Avatar as the best film of 2010
  • 19% opted for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1
  • 18% went with animated tearjerker Toy Story 3
  • 15% of the vote went to Leonardo DiCaprio thriller Inception

Although Avatar missed out on various Oscars in 2010, including Best Picture and Best Director, it seems James Cameron’s multi-million dollar 3D creation, which also made it as the top grossing film of all time, left a distinct impression on the British public. Other films that made it into the top ten include vampire saga installment Twilight: Eclipse, animated comedy Shrek Forever After (The Final Chapter), superhero flick Kick-Ass, 80s remake The A-Team, action film The Expendables and George Clooney movie Up in the Air.
