Alexandra and Grace are popular choices for a royal girl, and James is the favourite for a boy
Since the Duchess of Cambridge announced her pregnancy last December, what name she will give to her her son or daughter - Britain's monarch someday - has been the subject of much speculation. Alexandra is the runaway favourite among Britain's bookmakers, with 2-1 odds for being the name of the world's next British royal, and betting markets have George as the most likely of boy names.
But new YouGov research reveals that if the British people themselves could decide, the baby's name would not be George - but James. Nearly one fifth (19%) of Britons say James was one of their top three boy names for Princess Kate's baby; George comes second with 14%.
Meanwhile, Britons are not completely convinced that Alexandra is best if the baby is a girl. Alexandra only managed to tie with Grace as Britain's favourite girl name for the royal baby, with each winning 13%, and Victoria close behind at 12%.
