Most Brits with mobiles won't change networks to get best deal despite saying price major factor

The majority of Britons with mobile phones will not change networks to get the best deal, even though significant numbers say that price is the most important factor when choosing a phone, our recent poll has found.

  • The poll for mobile phone experts Recombu.com shows that only 7% of Britons with mobiles will change networks in order to get the best deals
  • Despite more than three quarters (76%) claiming that price is the most important factor when choosing
  • Notwithstanding, over a third (35%) of Britons spend up to two weeks researching the best deals, implying that many are keen to understand how much they should pay, even if they don’t change networks

When choosing the three key influences for a new mobile phone package/tariff, respondents with a contract said that price was the most important factor (76%), followed by the number of minutes and/or texts included (49%). Third most important was the phone brand (21%), followed by contract length (28%) and quality of network coverage (26%).

Interestingly, celebrity endorsement was not one of the key factors when it came to choosing a mobile phone with none of the respondents choosing this as having influence over their decision.

Hannah Bouckley, editor of Recombu.com, commented on the findings: "The economic downturn is making it even more important for people to get the most from their money on items like mobile phones, so it’s really surprising to see that so few consumers are changing network get the best deal. For an industry which is full of options, consumers should be challenging network providers in order to get the best value for money by shopping around."
