YouGov and the GDPR: how we’re preparing for the new requirements

The EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) harmonises the data protection laws across the EU and strengthens the rights citizens have over how their personal data is used. YouGov welcomes the introduction of the GDPR because we believe that all personal data should be handled responsibly.

Like many companies, we are actively preparing for the GDPR.

We have established a multi-disciplinary team that is leading a GDPR compliance programme that has been endorsed by the YouGov Group Board. As part of this programme we are going through a process of reviewing (and updating where necessary) our data policies, procedures, systems and legal agreements in readiness for the regulation coming into force in May 2018.

YouGov’s core offering of opinion data is derived from our highly participative panel of 5 million panellists worldwide who provide us with a continuous stream of data about their attitudes, beliefs, likes and dislikes. We recognise the value of the data that our panellists provide to us, and the responsibility that comes with it.

For YouGov, preparing for the GDPR is not just a box-ticking exercise; we see this as an opportunity to reinforce the trusted relationship we have with our panel and to enhance our reputation for accuracy and transparency.
