Young British men are significantly more likely than their American and German counterparts to want a larger penis - and young British women are more likely to want cosmetic surgery

It’s well established in medical research that many men are unhappy with the size of their manhood, despite the rarity of very small penises and there being a much higher percentage of women who are satisfied with their partner’s size than the percentage of men who are satisfied with their own.

New YouGov research reveals the scale of dissatisfaction among young people in particular, and shows that the problem of body image is particularly acute in Britain compared to similar Western nations.

In Britain, being unhappy with your penis size is now the default situation for young men: more 18-24 year old British men say they would like their penis to be larger (42%) than say it is the right size (36%). In both Germany and the US young men tend to say their manhood is the right size – in America fully 58% are content.

On average, British men of all ages are more likely than men in Germany and the USA to want a larger penis – 35% in Britain, 22% in Germany and 29% in America.

Young women

Looking across all British women, they are less likely than American women to say they'd have cosmetic surgery if money were no object (33% in Britain, 43% in America). However the inadequacy young men are feeling with regard to their body iamge looks to be felt by young women also.

44% of 18-24 year old British women say they would like to have cosmetic surgery, compared to 35% of 18-29 year old American women. Among British women as a whole the most popular modification by far for those who would like cosmetic surgery is fat reduction (58%).

Wrinkle removal (33%) and breast enlargement (29%) are the next most popular modifications for British women who'd like surgery. Wanting larger breasts is also more pronounced among young women (27% of 18-24 year old British women would compared to 6% of over-60s).

For men the top modifications among those who would like cosmetic surgery are fat reduction (48%), penis enlargement (29%) and nose reshaping (19%).
