Fuel duty freeze more popular than extra childcare

The fuel duty freeze also beats free parking at NHS hospitals

Ukip's policy of scrapping car parking fees at NHS hospitals seems a canny retail offer. In a new YouGov poll for Red Box, I tested three policies of comparable spending impact to see which was most popular.

Free hospital parking beats increasing the amount of free childcare for three and four-year-olds by 47% to 27%. Freezing the level of tax on petrol and diesel beats extra childcare by 57% to 26% – and against free parking, it wins by 47% to 35%.

So the most popular largesse is still unbestowed.
