Green surge among young people

The Green party are on 19% among under-25s – a 12% gain since January

In recent weeks, the Green party have on a number of occasions out-polled the Liberal Democrats in nationwide YouGov polls. On 8% in today’s daily poll, they are one point ahead of the Conservative’s coalition partners.

New YouGov research has aggregated each month’s daily polls to analyse the Green vote, showing a particular increase among young British people.

Looking at support among 18 to 24 year olds Green support has increased from 7% at the start of the year to 19% now, mostly at the expense of the Labour party whose support amongst young people has fallen 10% since January. The Green party are now running in a solid third place amongst under 25s, just 5 points behind the Conservative party in second place. Despite their declining support, Labour still lead on 34%.
