The majority of the British public would like to see the 2004 Hunting Act enforced and feel prosecution for those breaking it is wholly appropriate, our poll has found. The results come as hunts met last weekend for the first time in this year’s season.
This year is the first year under a pro-hunting prime minister since the ban was introduced in 2004.
David Cameron, whose pledge to repeal the Act formed part of his election manifesto, has recently come under fire for indefinitely pushing back a proposed vote on the issue. But even if the PM fulfils his ‘free vote on a motion’ promise, it seems unlikely that repeal would please much of the population.
