Yesterday Wimbledon champion Andy Murray was presented with an OBE by the Duke of Cambridge, who was hosting his first investiture ceremony.
Murray was awarded his OBE in the New Years’ Honours list following to his historic victory on the green lawns of Wimbledon.
Earlier in the day Murray revealed that he thought he was going to be late for the occasion as he was in the middle of a drugs test. He said that “they turned up at my door at 8.20am and I had a taxi booked for half past eight. I was a bit worried I was going to be late”.
Using YouGov’s social media analysis tool, SoMA, we can see that 40.4% of UK Twitter users heard a mention of Andy Murray on their private Twitter feeds yesterday. Though this is a significant sized audience, it is, unsurprisingly, far less than the number of users that heard about the tennis star on the day of his Wimbledon victory (85.4%).
Interestingly, while 75.7% of UK Facebook users heard about Andy Murray on the day of his Wimbledon victory, just 1.2% heard about the British No 1 yesterday.
