Italy’s Juventus FC has started the year with a bang, witnessing the biggest improvement in Buzz scores among all clubs in select European markets.

Football’s biggest Buzz movers is a monthly editorial feature by YouGov Sport, which highlights the clubs with the biggest improvement in Buzz scores in the United Kingdom, Spain, Italy, Germany, and France.

A club’s Buzz score is a net score of the responses to two questions: “Over the past two weeks, which of the following teams have you heard something positive about?” and “Which of the following teams have you heard something negative about?”

This month, the increases in the Buzz scores of clubs among adults in the UK were relatively modest. Southampton FC (+2.1), which has enjoyed positive results in the Premier League, including 1-1 draws against giants Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur leads the list. Manchester City (+1.6), Brighton and Hove Albion (+1.4), Leicester City (+1.4) and Newcastle United (+1.3) also made it to the top five in the UK.

January has been a bittersweet month for Athletic Bilbao, who beat Atletico Madrid to reach the Spanish Super Cup final, before losing to Real Madrid. But, amid victories over Barcelona (Copa del Rey) and Rayo Vallecano (La Liga), Marcelino García Toral’s team raked up a +7.6-point increase in Buzz scores. Barcelona (+5.6), Manchester City (+3.4), Arsenal (+2.8) and Getafe CF (+2.8) also made noticeable improvements in the Buzz among adults in Spain.

In Germany, 1. FC Union Berlin, claims the top spot with a +4.7-point increase in Buzz scores. The club has stayed undefeated in its last five matches in the Bundesliga and is currently placed fourth on the points table. Werder Bremen (+4.0), RB Leipzig (+3.5), FC Bayern München (+3.0) and Borussia Mönchengladbach (+2.9) also feature in the top five.

Olympique de Marseille, which is placed third in the Ligue 1, rose 7 Buzz points among French adults. Paris Saint-Germain (2.7), Barcelona (2.3), FC Nantes (+1.8) and Nimes Olympique (+1.6) are the other clubs that make it to the top five among adults in France.

Juventus soared in the Buzz score metric among adults in Italy, rising +11.7 points in a month where they registered Serie A victories over Roma and Udinese, while holding AC Milan to a draw. Milan (+8.6) too made big comparable gains. Tottenham Hotspur (+3.2), FC Barcelona (+3.0) and Cagliari Calcio (+1.8) round out the top five Buzz movers in Italy.
