5W Public Relations recently surveyed 2,000 Americans aged 16 plus to gain insights on consumers’ holiday shopping habits.
With the pandemic impacting shopping behaviours, 53% of consumers plan to spend the same this year on gifts as they did in 2019. Of those polled, 61% plan to buy their holiday gifts online and in-store, while 18% plan to buy them exclusively online.
Only 9% would purchase gifts in-store only. Clothing and fashion (47%), beauty and personal care (38%) and electronics and technology (34%) are the top gift ideas consumers wish to buy for their loved ones.
Social media and influencers at 27% and in-store at 54% are among the top spots where consumers found their gift ideas. 23% of Americans would wait until Black Friday sales for purchasing gifts.
