US users are spending more time with Instagram and Snapchat during the pandemic

While there is an increased user-engagement across the board, some platforms are faring better.

Social media platforms have benefited to differing degrees from increased time users are spending online during the lockdown.  Adult users in the United States are expected to spend an average of 1 hour, 22 minutes per day logged in, an increase of 7 minutes from last year.

Photo-sharing platform Instagram seems to be poised to biggest gainer among social media platforms. The Facebook-owned network is expected to see usage increase by 4 minutes over last year, taking the daily time up to nearly 30 minutes a day.

Messaging app Snapchat is expected to see daily time spend by adult users growing by 12% to 29.5 minutes a day. The increase comes on the back of increased interest in the Snapchat’s original shows and a rise in video calling.
