A study by Backlinko and Pitchbox analysed 12 million outreach emails.

The data reveals that only 8.1% of outreach emails get a reply, so sending multiple emails to the same contact will increase the chances of a response. Sending three or more emails delivers the best response rate. But one follow-up email alone can increase replies by 65.8%.

Additionally, emails with longer subject lines get 32.7% more replies with the ideal length being 36-50 characters. The author notes that personalising subject lines can boost the response rate by 30.5%.

The study also found email outreach topics like guest posting, roundups and link building deliver “above average” response rates. Of these, guest posting and roundups receive 24.7% and 23.8% response rates respectively, even though they are often considered “dead” topics by content marketers.
