Brits aren’t much for taking it slow but young people are bucking the trend
In this age of ghosting and emotional baggage memes, one season seems to be exempt from any reservations to commit.
Half of people in relationships spent Christmas Day together within less than a year, while a fifth waited for one to two years. Only one in twenty people (5%) have never spent the 25th with their partner.
But things might be changing. About three in five people (61%) who are 45 and older spent Christmas Day together within a year, compared to two in five people (39%) under 45.
A third of people aged 18 to 24 and one in eight 25- to 34-year-olds (12%) have never spent Christmas Day with their partner. This is well above the national average of 5%.
Festive fallouts: where to spend 25 December?
Most couples manage to peacefully negotiate where to spend Christmas Day. Nearly four out of five people (77%) say they have never argued about it.
But for some, things can easily go from festive to feisty. About one in fourteen (7%) argue every year over where to open the presents. Parents with young kids are especially prone to a Christmas tiff, with one in six (17%) falling out every year over where to go.
