Just one in twenty trust the investigation a great deal

While it remains to be seen how long the Metropolitan Police investigation into the alleged ‘partygate’ gatherings will go on for, the government has now said it would reveal if Boris Johnson is personally issued a fixed penalty notice as a result. It is not clear if there would be an announcement should Number 10 staff be fined.

Regardless of the outcome, the majority of Britons (58%) do not trust the investigation, including nearly one in five (19%) who do not trust it "at all". Only three in ten members of the general public (31%) say they trust the investigation – including a mere 5% who trust it a “great deal”.

Half of Conservative voters (49%) also say they do not trust the investigation, however only 8% trust it a “great deal. By comparison, two in five (40%) Conservative voters do tend to trust it. Labour voters are firm in their opinion that they do not trust the Met’s investigation (68%).
