Most people think Ian Brady should be allowed to starve himself to death
On Wednesday the expert in charge of Moors Murderer Ian Brady’s mental health tribunal said that he is “still severely handicapped by his disorder” and acting “chronically psychotic”. Brady, 75, has been on a hunger strike for over a decade and is hoping to be transferred to a prison where he will no longer be force fed against his will, but will only be moved out of the hospital if a judge declares him no longer ill.
New YouGov research reveals that a slim majority (51%) of the British public think Brady should be allowed to starve himself to death, while 40% think he should not be.
Brady and accomplice Myra Hindley murdered five children between the ages of 10 and 17 in the mid 1960s.
The body of one of Brady’s victims, Keith Bennett, still has not been located, but the judge overseeing the mental health tribunal has said that neither the whereabouts of Bennett’s body nor Brady’s crimes would be considered at the current proceedings.
