A majority of Brits would want a friend or family member to attend London’s Gay Pride parade, despite the heightened threat in the wake of Orlando.
Pride in London is underway, albeit against the stark backdrop of the mass shooting at a gay club in Orlando. Events across the two week festival are expected to be attended by more than a million people, culminating in a parade through London’s West End on June 25th. The parade is scheduled to go ahead as planned, although security has been stepped up and revellers urged to be vigilant.
YouGov research shows a majority of the public would want a gay friend or family member to attend the event despite the security threat.
Less than one in five (19%) say they would want a gay friend or family member to stay away from the event in case of an attack similar to Orlando’s. A further 6% would want them to stay away for some other reason and 21% don’t know.
Pride in London organisers are planning a minute’s reflection on the day of the parade to “honour the people who lost their lives, and stand united in a moment of solidarity, peace and remembrance.”
