SportsLab football fans predict a good weekend for the teams at the top of the table. Five of the top seven are at home and four play teams in the bottom five. Chelsea, Liverpool, Man Utd, Tottenham, Newcastle and Manchester City are all predicted very likely to pick up three points, while almost two-thirds expect Arsenal’s trip to Swansea to end in a win for the Gunners.
The other three games look like they may be finely-balanced affairs. A draw is predicted as Everton visit Aston Villa (although only one in ten SportsLab fans can see Everton emerging victorious), while a majority tip West Brom-Norwich to also end in a stalemate. Bottom-of-the-table Blackburn are also expected to share the points at home to Fulham ‒ indeed this is the game that splits SportsLab panellists the most: 44% predict a draw, with almost a quarter plumping for a Blackburn win, compared to just under a third who foresee Martin Jol’s side taking the spoils.
Labs Method statement
YouGovLabs research is anecdotal, with polls being open to all panellists who wish to take part. In contrast to YouGov’s Public Opinion polling, YouGovLabs seeks to understand the attitudes of specific subsets of people: sports fans tell us how they feel about sports and music fans tell us how they feel about music, for example. YouGovLabs results are unweighted, and figures reported do not reflect the attitudes of the population as a whole.
