Actor Hugh Grant has topped a poll as the ‘poshest’ celebrity out of a list of thirteen others. From the 1,336 polled across the country, 65% would call the Notting Hill star ‘posh’, with 73% of 18-35 year olds agreeing. He was substantially ahead of the other options given – actor Jude Law came in second place at just 16%, compared to 13% for TV judge Simon Cowell in third place.
Lowest scorers include presenter Chris Evans at two percent and Frank Lampard with just one percent of the vote. U2 singer Bono and artist Robbie Williams are not seen as remotely posh either, each netting a lowly one percent.
When it comes to the women, in a similar list of 14 well-known figures, socialite Tara Palmer-Tompkinson landed the top spot with 67%. Actress Kate Winslet rated at 30%, while Prince William’s long-term girlfriend Kate Middleton (31%) beat brother Harry’s on-off love Chelsy Davy (22%) in the royal relationship stakes. Lowest scorers among the women include model Kate Moss (5%), presenter Christine Bleakley (4%) and X Factor sweetheart Leona Lewis with two percent.
Interestingly, although technically residing outside the traditional English ‘class’ system, ubiquitous socialite Paris Hilton scored 17%, while US President and First Lady Barack and Michelle Obama rated eleven percent each.
