Helped by a large female vote David Beckham has comfortably gained the YouGov Sports Personality of the Year 2010, fighting off competition from Formula 1 drivers Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton as well as Tom Daley and Jessica Ennis who all finished joint second to the famous footballer and national treasure.
- 25% of people voted David Beckham as their Sports Personality of 2010 compared to just 11% for each of his four closest rivals.
- 34% of females put Beckham as their number one Sports Personality compared to only 15% for his nearest rival Tom Daley, showing the older man still has what it takes to draw his female fans.
The results come just days after David Beckham was awarded the Lifetime Achievement award at the BBC’s Sports Personality of the Year awards for his contribution to both English football and sport as a whole. Not a bad year for the man who still intends to play for England.
