Spare a thought for Santa this Christmas Eve: three quarters of the British public neglect to leave out a stocking before bedding down the night before Christmas.

  • 65% of British adults said that they do not leave a stocking out on Christmas Eve.
  • However, a sizeable minority are clearly hoping for a few presents come morning, as 31% say that they do leave a stocking out.

Perhaps having a stocking is just a throwback to childhood nostalgia that declines with age? 39% of 18-24s leave one out compared to just 16% of those over 60.
