‘Legend’ or ‘deserved to go’?

The departure of controversial X Factor contestant Wagner Carrilho from last weekend’s show has provoked a significant influx of comments on the TellYouGov leaderboard, with the volume score rocketing in the past 24 hours as users rushed to comment after last night’s show.

  • At the time of writing, Wagner’s volume score was an impressive 210 (up 194 points in the past 24 hours), pushing the Brazilian to 6th highest on the board.
  • However, with a sentiment score of -87, up 29 in the same time frame, it’s clear the response is mainly negative towards the eccentric performer.

Some TellYouGov users, or ‘tyggers’, are already lamenting how flat the show will feel without Wagner’s memorable presence, but many others rejoiced that the PE teacher had finally been given the boot.

The former PE teacher, who sung Radiohead’s Creep on Saturday’s show along with the rather apt Unforgettable as his ‘sing-off’ song, received an unsurprisingly unanimous vote from the X Factor judges after he ended up in the bottom three and then two, as the unpopular Katie Waissel was voted off immediately with the fewest number of public votes, and fellow Louis Walsh mentee Mary Byrne competed with him for the final judges’ vote.

All four judges, including Walsh, said that Wagner had been a ‘good sport’ and a ‘gracious man’, but opted to save Mary following her rendition of Shirley Bassey’s This Is My Life. So far neither Mary nor Katie has garnered much comment on TellYouGov in the past 24 hours.

The show, of which the eventual winner will release a solo single in a bid for the nation’s Christmas Number 1, continues into its semi-final next week.
