Nearly half of 18-24 year olds in the UK have sent sexually explicit text messages, a new YouGov poll finds
The results of YouGov’s 2013 Sex Survey show that almost half (47%) of 18-24 year olds and more than four in ten (41%) 25-34 year olds have ‘sexted’, though the numbers decrease with age.
It is predominantly men who ‘sext’, with more than a quarter (27%) admitting to doing so compared to one in six (17%) women; that pattern repeats for every sexual act mentioned apart from using a sex toy, where 37% of women and 29% of men have, and dressing up in costume during sex, where twice as many women (14%) than men (7%) have.
The poll also reveals that less than two thirds (64%) of Britons can name all of their sexual partners, and while more than seven in ten (73%) women can name them all only 54% of men can say the same. Londoners have the worst memories when it comes to former partners, with just 59% remembering the names of all former lovers, compared to three quarters (75%) of people in Northern Ireland.
In terms of performance, the Welsh rate themselves as the UK’s best lovers while people in the Midlands rank themselves as the worst. When asked to rate their sexual performances on a scale of 1 to 5 people in Wales ranked as the most confident lovers in Britain, averaging 3.45. By comparison, people in the Midlands came last with a mean score of 3.17.
The Welsh also lead the nation when it comes to the quality of their sex lives, with an average score of 3.31. Again the Midlands are at the bottom on 2.63.
