Times athletic correspondent Rick Broadbent has made waves on the web today, proclaiming, "I'm heartily sick of Barcelona" in advance of tonight's Champions League game between Barcelona and AC Milan
Writing for sports blog The Game, he says: “I hope Milan win. I am sick of the cult of Barcelona. Say anything against them and their followers will write Neanderthal on your forehead in the blood of Dani Alves. Someone else recently wrote that Barca, their name shortened to acknowledge affection as in Kylie, Madonna and Jesus, are now beyond plaudits. Hokum.”
He continues: “Barcelona can be boring. Possession football is anathema to excitement and Barcelona are the masters of the aimless pass. It might not be a 50-yard hopeful hoof, but what was the point of that ten-yard pass, Andres? Believers will say it part of a grand plan and that, having passed a side to death, they walk the ball into the net and this is proof of the genius inherent in the system. E = MC square ball and all that.”
Late last year Atlético de Madrid coach Diego Simeone said that Barcelona was making La Liga “boring”, albeit for a somewhat different reason (“We lost to a team who plays in a different league than ours. They are making this a boring league.")
Are you bored of Barcelona? Is Milan the more exciting team?
