New YouGov study of 20,000 people in 19 countries finds overwhelming preference for Hillary Clinton in all except one - the USA
With polling now underway in the United States, the outcome of the presidential election is still uncertain. Were this contest being held in any other country, however, it appears that the result would be a foregone conclusion.
New YouGov research of over 20,000 adults across 19 countries finds that Hillary Clinton is the overwhelmingly preferred candidate to be the next US president in all of them bar one – the United States.*
Clinton has the strongest backing in Nordic countries, with levels of support ranging from 72% in Norway to 81% in Denmark. The other European nations aren’t far behind, with the UK, France and Germany all strongly backing Clinton.
Saudia Arabians are the most unsure, with approaching half (46%) saying they don’t know who they’d prefer to be president. Nonetheless, among those who do have an opinion, Clinton still beats Trump by a ratio of five to one.
The most pro-Trump countries in this survey (other than the US) are India and Thailand. However, with 20% backing, Trump still receives less than half the support in these countries than he does in the US (and, indeed, less than half the support Clinton has in these nations).
*Russia, not included in this survey, was the only country in a previous YouGov study in April that was found to prefer Donald Trump for president.
