An overwhelming 64% of the Welsh population think that the minimum age for buying alcohol and tobacco should be raised from 18 to 21 years, but most think that supermarket offers on drink should be allowed to remain.
Last month Wales’s chief medical officer Dr Tony Jewel said it was right that Wales should be able to introduce a minimum price and other control measures for the sale of alcohol.
‘I welcome that the UK Government has indicated it is going to take action on these issues, but I back the Health Minister’s bid to request the devolution of powers to regulate the sale of alcohol by supermarkets, licensed premises, pubs and clubs,’ he said.
