Over half of British adults (57%) think that Nick Griffin should not have been allowed to attend the Buckingham Palace garden party, a recent poll on behalf of the Sunday Times has found. However, nearly a third (31%) believed that he should have been allowed to attend the event.

Nick Griffin, leader of the BNP, had been invited to the party because he is an elected MEP. However the Palace withdrew the invitation, claiming that Griffin had been publicising the visit for political purposes. It was felt that this would increase the security risk for the event, as well as the possibility of causing discomfort to other guests. The MEP declined an invitation to the same event last year, after concerns were raised that he was using the invitation for a political stunt.
