Welsh wonders

A film star, a comedian and an opera singer rank highest among the national treasures that Welsh residents would most like to have dinner with.

Welsh residents put Hannibal star Anthony Hopkins and comedian Rob Brydon in joint first place (30%), while opera diva Katherine Jenkins (24%) came in third.
Unsurprisingly, the glamorous soprano, Katherine Jenkins, fared more popular among her male countrymen, with 32% showing a keen desire to have the singer round for dinner, compared to only 16% of women.

Outlandish comedian Rhod Gilbert was most popular among the young with 48% of 18 to 24 year-olds citing the comic as the Welsh celebrity they would most like to invite for dinner, while those living in Cardiff would prefer Gavin and Stacey star Ruth Jones (27%).

And while singers Tom Jones and Shirley Bassey are arguably two of Wales’s finest exports, far fewer would extend an invite to them; 13% chose Tom Jones, while just nine per cent said Shirley Bassey would be their ideal dinner guest.

Although it seems that for many, having a celebrity round for dinner is something they would like to experience, a distinctly non-starry-eyed ten percent answered that they would not like to have dinner with any of the famous Welsh personalities.
