The award-winning TV show Glee, already a phenomenon in the US, is also proving a hit with users, or ‘tyggers’, on the TellYouGov leaderboard. The last twenty four hours alone have seen the show recording an impressive score of 36, with a volume score also of 36, meaning it is the eighth highest scoring topic on the leaderboard and by far the most popular TV show (Its closest competitor, vampire drama True Blood, has a score of 14).

The series, which follows a high school teacher as he tries to turn a group of misfits into stars of the school show choir (‘The Glee Club’), has won many accolades. Chief among these is a Golden Globe for ‘Best Television Series — comedy or musical’ where the series fought off competition from popular and more established shows, including The Office and 30 Rock. It’s also making an impact in the music world and on Thursday 29th April it debuted at number one in the US Billboard charts with its third album, Glee: The Music — The Power of Madonna. This huge success has generated an army of self-proclaimed ‘Gleeks’, with numerous fan sites and groups dedicated to the show - one Facebook fan page has over two million members.

Considering the show’s massive success, it will come as no surprise that there are more than a few Gleeks among TellYouGov tyggers. Many tyggers have labelled Glee ‘the best show on TV!’ and a ‘breath of fresh air’, while others have praised it for being ‘great to sing along to!’. One particularly enthusiastic fan wrote ‘I am a proud Gleek!! Can’t get enough; it’s fabulous’.

And it seems to watch Glee is to love it. Of the 33 ‘tygs’ about the programme recorded this week, only one had something negative to say, levelling the fairly serious claim that the show is ‘managing to singlehandedly destroy music’.

It’s unlikely that this tygger’s fears for music will deter die-hard ‘Gleeks’ from continuing to express their love for their favourite show. With such high adoration, Glee seems as likely to stay put on the leaderboard as is its cast of hitting those high notes.
