The humble sandwich is 250 years old this year! Created as a convenient food to allow the Earl of Sandwich to play cards whilst eating, the sandwich has become one of the most popular foods in the world.
This week, to celebrate 250 years of this lunchtime staple, we invited sandwich-lovers to take part in Labs to crowd-source their perfect sandwich.

The BLT baguette with mayo
Out of all those ingredients, it seems that bacon, lettuce and tomato, with a dollop of mayonnaise, just can’t be beaten!
The runner-up sandwich of Labs participants was chicken, cheddar and cucumber on granary bread with butter.
Meatballs were the least popular sandwich filling on our list, while none of the individuals who took part wanted to use cheese spread on their bread.
