More than one in four Brits with a favoured ice lolly said that it was a Magnum
With Britain enjoying a sweltering summer, people across the nation will be giving their ice lollies a good licking to cool down.
Now new data from YouGov Omnibus reveals that one ice lolly dominates the public’s affections: the humble Magnum.
Asked to say what their favoured ice lolly is, 28% of Brits with a favourite chose the Walls staple (and potentially prompting debate on where the line between ice lolly and ice cream falls – it’s worth pointing out that respondents answered in their own words, rather than choosing from a set of options provided by YouGov).
Age appears to be a key factor in Magnum’s appeal, with only 12% of 18-24 year olds naming it as their favourite compared to 42% of those aged 65 or older.
Magnums are more than three times as popular as their nearest rivals, joint second-placed Fabs and Soleros, both of which are the favourites of 8% of Britons. Soleros are consistently popular among the generations, while Fabs tend to be more popular with Brits under 50 (11%, compared to 1% of those aged 65 or older).
Similarly, younger people are more likely to favour Twisters – 11% of 18-24 year olds and 10% of 25-49 year olds, compared to 2% of those aged 50 plus.
The results also highlight the dominance of Walls in the nation’s ice lolly market: four out of the five top ice lollies are all Walls brands.
