App Annie’s 2021 App Performance Report has underlined TikTok’s dominance in the social media space.
TikTok ranked second in the breakout app spend chart. Similarly, CapCut, which is an editing tool for TikTok, topped the breakout downloads chart. Instagram remained strong when it comes to active users, with Facebook at the bottom of the top 10 apps with the highest number of active users.
TikTok has also witnessed the most significant YoY jump in terms of overall app spend. The report also notes how apps aiming to replicate either TikTok or its features are performing well. For instance, India’s MX TakaTak and Moj are gaining traction.
Similarly, Twitter’s Explore feed now resembles a TikTok display and Instagram’s Stories features a new vertical format as well. Pinterest has picked up on TikTok aesthetic for its Idea Pins, while SnapchatSpotlight feed uses a full-screen, swipeable UI.
