Jungle Scout’s Q1 Consumer Trends report underscores how consumers in the US are spending amid the pandemic.
The report found 56% of American consumers are living “paycheck to paycheck”, while 48% suffered sudden financial problems during the last three months. Of those polled, 73% have become careful about their spends, and 70% want to purchase relatively cheaper products.
Further, consumers (54%) purchased products they first learnt about on social media platforms. 70% of consumers have Amazon Prime memberships and 38% are Walmart+ members. Moreover, 73% of consumers shopped on Amazon recently, while 57% purchased in Walmart stores.
Also, 45% of consumers use deal-finding extensions or plug-ins while buying online. Overall spending decreased for 43% of consumers, while 37% reported an increase in their online spends. Products like groceries, cleaning supplies, and health and personal care items surged in demand. 32% utilised restaurants’ curb-side pick-up.
