Instagram won’t promote recycled TikToks

Create trends that are “fun” or “entertaining” and let other users participate in them, Instagram’s creators’ team suggests.

Recent algorithmic update on Instagram won’t promote Reels that essentially are recycled TikToks. Videos with TikTok’s watermark, blurry videos covered with text, or Reels that have a watermark or a logo or a border around it won’t be promoted as often.

Through the @creators account, Instagram provides users with tips on how to create content that’s more likely to be seen or promoted. Users are recommended to post vertical Reels videos using music from Instagram’s library or Reels audios.

A spokesperson for Instagram, Devi Narasimhan notes that insights from surveys revealed that people are having a “less satisfying” Reels experience, with recycled content or blurry content from other apps. Instagram’s content recommendation software will understate the content that has been recycled.
