COVID-19 to leave a lasting on retail

SheerID and CommerceNext’s study highlights how consumers want retailers to respond during these challenging times.

Around 67% of consumers believe the coronavirus pandemic will continue to affect their lives for a year or more. Nearly half of consumers feel their mental health has been more affected due to the crisis.

Nearly half of customers reported feeling the necessity to maintain friendships and social interactions after the pandemic. 48% of consumers also thought that they need to address mental health concerns. Interestingly, 41% of consumers suggested that retailers can best serve their needs right now by retaining their employees.

More than half of consumers want free shipping, while 43% expect additional promotions for themselves and 30% expect special offers for front-line health workers. SheerID’s CEO Jake Weatherly said,” Consumers across all segments now expect brands to go beyond merchandising and align their brand with purposes that support the community at large.”
